Approximate Time: 1hr

Distance: 3 miles/4.5km

Type of Walk: This is a scenic, moderately easy countryside walk with a mix of fields, lanes, woodland, and farm tracks. The main challenges come from mud and uneven surfaces, especially in wet weather.

This walk can be linked to the Hemyock to Culm Valley route to give a combined length of 7km (4.5 miles).

Parking:

Car Park next to Baptist Church.

Directions:

  1. From the car park next to the Baptist church, turn left along Fore Street past the village pump to the Catherine Wheel pub.
  2. Take the road signposted to Dunkeswell, past the pub on your left and St Mary's church and the castle on your right.
  3. After 300m, take the footpath on the right, opposite a bungalow. Cross three fields keeping close to the right-hand hedge in the first and third fields, and close to the left-hand hedge in the second field. This leads to a short stretch of grassy track and then onto a lane.
  4. Turn right here, past the entrance to Conigar Farm. After about 200m you will come to a four-way junction of tracks and paths: take the right-hand track and continue downhill for 100m to a lane.
  5. Turn left and continue for a further 1km, ignoring a lane to your right.
  6. About 200m after the the lane bends sharp left, take the straight, stony track on the left.
  7. At the end of the track go right and pick up the path that takes you through the woodland for about 0.5km.
  8. Near the end of the path, go through a gateway onto a track going downhill for 100m. This brings you back to the four-way track / path junction where you turn right to retrace your steps back to Hemyock. Alternatively, turn left to join the Culm Valley Walk.
