Loxbeare is a small and peaceful rural parish located around four miles west of the historic market town of Tiverton. Set within the valley of the River Exe and surrounded by rolling countryside, the parish forms part of Mid Devon’s picturesque agricultural landscape. Despite its tranquil setting, Loxbeare is conveniently positioned along the A361 North Devon Link Road, providing easy access to North Devon and the M5 (Junction 27)—making it an ideal base for exploring the wider region.
Loxbeare offers a quiet countryside escape steeped in history and natural beauty. The surrounding landscape of gently undulating farmland, hedgerows and river valleys is well suited to peaceful walking, wildlife spotting and slow exploration of the Mid Devon countryside.
At the heart of the parish stands St Michael’s and All Angels Church, a Grade II listed building with origins dating back to the 12th century. The church retains a notable Norman doorway and a rare set of three medieval bells, which are believed to still hang in their original bell cage. Carefully maintained over the centuries, the church provides a tangible connection to Loxbeare’s long past and is a focal point of the parish.
Loxbeare’s rural setting, combined with its proximity to Tiverton and major road links, makes it especially appealing for visitors seeking tranquillity without remoteness.
