Welcome to Clayhidon:

Clayhidon is a peaceful rural village set in the heart of Devon, nestled beside the beautiful Blackdown Hills and around 12 miles north of Tiverton. Known for its picturesque setting and friendly, close‑knit community, the village hosts a variety of events throughout the year — from fetes and fairs to community gatherings — offering wonderful opportunities for neighbours and visitors to connect. Its location on the edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty makes Clayhidon an ideal destination for scenic walks, countryside exploration and outdoor adventures.

Local Experiences:

Clayhidon offers a blend of natural beauty, heritage and family‑friendly rural experiences. A highlight for nature lovers is Clayhidon Turbary, an 18‑hectare wildlife haven of heathland, scrub and young woodland. Once an area where peat was traditionally cut for fuel, it is now grazed by native cattle and ponies to help support a thriving ecosystem. Visitors may spot species such as tawny owls, adders or slow worms as they explore.

The village is also home to the historic St Andrew’s Church, a 13th‑century parish church notable for its striking chancel arch, golden roof bosses and finely carved pulpit. For a taste of local produce, visitors can head to Palmers Farm Milk, where fresh milk vending machines and milkshake stations offer a farm‑to‑cup treat. Their vending machines also stock sausages, bacon and handmade sweet goods like brownies and marmalades — ideal for a countryside picnic.

Clayhidon’s traditional pub, the Half Moon Inn, offers a warm welcome with locally sourced food, a cosy log fire and a selection of regional drinks, making it a great stop after a day exploring the surrounding landscapes.
