The Bookery is a not‑for‑profit, community‑owned bookshop in Crediton, Devon, committed to building resilient, inclusive communities through the power of books and storytelling. As a trusted local hub, we tackle key challenges such as low literacy, rural isolation and limited access to cultural opportunities.

We deliver a range of free, high‑impact outreach programmes designed to support all ages. These include early‑years literacy sessions, inclusive family activities, school reading support and initiatives for older adults experiencing loneliness.

Supported by a dedicated team of over 45 trained volunteers and staff, The Bookery works in partnership with organisations across education, health and the wider community sector.

The Bookery is a welcoming, vibrant space where children, families and older people connect, feel inspired and develop a lifelong love of reading.

We provide free Drop In Craft events for Children 5+ during Half Terms and Summer Holidays (check dates on our website).
The Hub at The Bookery provides desks for co-working and a meeting room that can be booked on the website.
