St Peter’s Church, Tiverton | Historic Church in Mid Devon

St Peter’s Church in Tiverton is a Grade I listed parish church in Mid Devon, dating from 1073. It is known for its distinctive 99‑foot tower and a stunning collection of stained glass windows.

For centuries, St Peter’s has been at the heart of civic life in Tiverton and remains a key venue for town events such as Remembrance Day and Mayor’s Sunday services. Much of its Grade I listing relates to the beauty and historic significance of the Greenway Chapel, built in 1517.

The church is also associated with the first performance of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”, played by Samuel Reay at the wedding of Dorothy Carew and Tom Daniel on 2 June 1847. It is also known for the burial and funeral service of Princess Katherine Plantagenet in 1527.

Visitor information is available inside the church, including booklets on its history, stained glass windows and organ, plus portable information boards to guide you as you explore.
