Bampton Motte and Bailey
In the eastern approach to Bampton stands the Motte, this would have originally been built as a defensive measure by the Saxons. There is no remaining structure apart from a flight of stone steps, but the view from the top spans across the whole town and across the valley. The area is maintained and restored by a group if volunteers.
