Struggling with ideas to entertain the little ones this October half term? Here’s a list of just some of the family friendly activities happening in Mid Devon this holiday!
Take part in a pumpkin trail
Head to Rackenford Village Shop to collect your map and set off on their Autumn trail hunting for pumpkins and learning about Autumn. Maps are just £2 each to support Rackenford PTFA. The Autumn trail runs from 18th – 31st October.
We might not be able to go trick or treating this Halloween but that doesn’t mean you can’t practise your pumpkin carving skills! Wrap up warm, or even better get into fancy dress, and head to the pumpkin patch.
Thorne’s Farm Shop’s PYO Pumpkin Festival runs from Thursday 29th – Saturday 31st October while Halberton Court Farm Shop is open all week (except Sunday) for pumpkin picking.
Practise Mindfulness
Enjoy a restorative morning with GROWBox and Polka Dot Yoga and their Seasonal Soul workshop in Farleigh for all the family. Take part in the yoga workshop while the kids have fun with eco-crafts. Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th. Booking essential.
Explore Bampton’s Heritage
Thursday 29th October would have been Bampton Fair day. So you don’t miss out, Bampton Heritage and Visitor Centre will be open between 11 – 3 for you to learn about the history of Bampton, the fair and to share your own memories of past fair days.
Hunt for Wally in Tiverton Museum this half term as they take part in the national Where’s Wally? Spooky Museum Search. Add to the fun by dressing up as Wally or in your favourite Halloween costume, and look out for spooky decorations in the galleries. The museum is open all week (except Sunday). Booking recommended.
Mix up potions and create a wand
Join a spooky Potter themed wand making workshop and potions class at Old Heathcoat School Community Centre in Tiverton. Make oozing bubbly potions and Skele-Goo and craft your own wand with Sciencedipity on Friday October 30th.
Mrs Gill’s Country Cakes in Tiverton invites you to take part in cupcake decorating and Halloween fun on Saturday 31st October. By reservation only with prizes up for grabs for the best fancy dress!
Get back to nature at Knightshayes
Pop to Knightshayes for leaf-crunching fun this half term! Follow one of 3 different autumn trails and make a wild crown from natural items you find on your adventure round the grounds. Running all week in normal opening times.
Run off some energy at Planet Play
Book a play session at Planet Play in Crediton for some half term soft play fun. Enjoy a cuppa and a bit of respite while the little ones burn off some energy! Open all half term week with lots of sessions to choose from. Booking essential.
Have buckets of fun
Diggerland in Willand are open until Sunday 1st November for some outdoor family fun. Have a go on the diggers and try out the rides. Booking recommended.
Get their imagination working
Be one of the first to try out Mid Devon’s brand new visitor attraction Bear Town in Cullompton. Let your little ones try their hand at 12 different jobs in this role play experience. Lots of sessions to choose from. Booking essential.
One for the grown ups…
If you find you’re in need of a break from the kids and some adult entertainment at the end of the week Tiverton Comedy Club has the perfect solution! Book your tickets now for their very first night of socially distanced stand up comedy and get some laughs from a line-up of local and national comedians. Saturday 31st October at Westexe Social Club in Tiverton.

Good level of fitness and walking experience, some steep climbs and open country with
less well marked sections of the route. Unsurfaced rural paths with rough and uneven
terrain. Suitable for more experienced and prepared walkers. May require a compass
and map. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
Technical
For very experienced and fit walkers only, will need to use compass and map, could
have steep inclines and uneven terrain, may need additional technical skills eg
scrambling, crampons etc. You must plan your walk beforehand.
Easy
Suitable for beginners in good health with basic bike skills. Relatively flat and
wide trail suitable for most types of bike.
Moderate
Suitable for riders in good health with basic off-road riding skills. Some
singletrack sections and small obstacles of root and rock may be present. Suitable
for basic mountain bikes.
Challenging
Suitable for proficient mountain bikers with good off-road riding skills and fitness.
Route may contain some challenging climbs, tricky descents and technical features
such as drop-offs and large rocks. Suitable for good mountain bikes.
Technical
Suitable for expert mountain bikers with high level of fitness. Route may contain
greater challenge and difficulty. Riders should expect large and unavoidable
features. Suitable for quality off-road mountain bikes.
