Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Mid Devon District Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Level A
  1. Some “Read more” buttons across the website can be reached by keyboard but are hidden from screen readers, meaning users who rely on screen readers will tab to them but hear nothing. This fails Name, Role, Value – WCAG 2.2 A 4.1.2.
  2. Some venue map embeds are labelled in two conflicting ways, which can cause assistive technologies to misread or ignore them. This fails WCAG 2.2 A 4.1.2. This issue is caused by The Events Calendar Pro plugin, not our own website code.
  3. On some event pages, date and time information is not structured correctly in the page code, meaning screen readers cannot present it to users in a meaningful way. This fails Info and Relationships – WCAG 2.2 A 1.3.1. This issue is caused by The Events Calendar Pro plugin, not our own website code.
  4. Some pages display multiple links with identical names that lead to different destinations — for example, multiple links all labelled “Memory Bank at Tiverton Museum” that go to different dates of the same event. This makes it difficult for screen reader users to know where each link will take them. This fails Link Purpose – WCAG 2.2 A F63. This issue is caused by The Events Calendar Pro plugin, not our own website code.
  5. On some pages, the visible label shown on a button or control does not match the name that assistive technologies use for it. This means users who navigate by voice — by speaking the name of a button — may not be able to activate it. This fails Label in Name – WCAG 2.2 A F96. Several instances of this, including the date picker on event series pages, are caused by The Events Calendar Pro plugin, not our own website code.
  6. On some events and venue pages, lists of events are present in the page code but contain no items, meaning screen readers announce an empty list. This may confuse users who are expecting to find content there. This fails Info and Relationships – WCAG 2.2 A 1.3.1. This issue is caused by The Events Calendar Pro plugin, not our own website code.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are actively working with our developer to fix an issue where some “Read more” buttons cannot be detected by screen readers. We expect this to be resolved in the summer of 2026.

The remaining issues on this website are caused by The Events Calendar Pro, a third-party plugin we use to manage and display events. These issues exist within the plugin’s own code and are not something we are able to fix directly. We check for plugin updates every month and will apply any fixes as soon as they become available. We have also reported these issues directly to the plugin developers.
