If you haven't explored Bampton on foot yet, you're missing out.

The town itself is a lovely wander, and the wider area has some seriously good walking country too, from town history trails to longer routes out into the surrounding countryside.

The best place to start is Bampton Heritage & Visitor Centre who have walk books and run regular guided walks throughout the year. Well worth a visit before you head out.

#FeatureFriday - Holcombe Rogus

A village with roots going all the way back to the Domesday Book, and plenty to discover if you know where to look.

Holcombe Rogus sits in a sheltered valley in classic Mid Devon countryside - holcombe literally meaning "deep or hollow valley" in Old English, so the name has been doing exactly what it says for nearly a thousand years. At its heart is St Mary's Church, with a striking 13th-century font, and nearby Holcombe Court, described as the most spectacular example of the Tudor style in Devon. It's privately owned, but its presence gives the village a real sense of history and place.

For walkers, the Burlescombe to Holcombe Rogus walking route passes through the area - taking in farmland, hedgerows and the peaceful towpath of the Grand Western Canal Country Park along the way.

It's a bank holiday weekend and Mid Devon is looking absolutely magnificent right now.

Late spring is one of the best times of year to visit this part of Devon, the countryside is green and full, the bluebells are still doing their thing, and the longer evenings mean there's time for a proper walk and a good meal before the day is done.

Whether you're planning a last-minute overnight stay, a day out with the family or just a long drive through some genuinely beautiful countryside, it's all here.
