A rewarding circular that takes in woodland, open countryside and the edges of the @knightshayesnt estate.

Starting from the Knightshayes car park, the route climbs up past the walled kitchen garden and out to the edges of the estate. This woodland section leads up to Firebeacon Lane, where wind-shaped trees frame wide views across the Devon countryside.

The route then drops down through a working farm (keep to the path and dogs on leads to protect livestock) before joining Hayne Lane and skirting the Knightshayes Estate down to Bolham, with a final climb back up towards Knightshayes, and up the drive to complete the loop.

A varied route with some steep sections and off-road paths, with the Knightshayes Stables Café perfectly placed for a well-earned drink at the end.

Stoke Canon is easy to drive through without stopping, but park up, find the footpath near the railway level crossing, and you`re quickly into a varied and rewarding short route through fields, woodland, wildflowers and alongside the river, leading to Brampford Speke, a picturesque village of thatched cottages and quirky details worth taking your time over.

History enthusiasts will spot signs of the old railway branch line along the way, including former station houses, adding an extra layer of interest to the route. The return leg follows a quiet country lane back to Stoke Canon, with the mainline railway not far away, there`s something unexpectedly satisfying about a train briefly cutting through the peace of the day.

A lovely, varied circular with plenty to notice along the way.
